Upright meaning
She faces forward, which almost nobody else in this suit does. Lions are carved into the back of her throne and worked into the cloth behind her; a sunflower is open in her left hand and a leafing staff stands in her right; a black cat sits at her feet with its eyes on the viewer rather than on her. The sunflower turns towards light and the cat does exactly as it pleases, and the tradition has always read her as both of those things at once, openly warm and entirely her own. Reversed meaning
Reversed, the warmth turns inward or turns hot. One common reading is jealousy: comparison running quietly under everything, other people's lives measured against yours to your own disadvantage. Another is charm used as management, brightness kept up in public with nothing underneath it. The card can also describe someone whose confidence has drained away, still capable and no longer certain, hesitating where she once decided, with the cat gone off somewhere and the sunflower turned to the wall. There is a temper in this figure too, quick and soon over, and reversed it lasts longer than it should.
