The wheel hangs in a cloudy sky, lettered around its rim, with a sphinx sitting on top and creatures at each corner absorbed in books. Nobody is turning it. That is the whole idea: some of what happens to a life is weather, and this card is about the part you did not arrange. Upright, it is usually read as a turn for the better, or at least a turn: the situation that has felt fixed for two years starts to move, an opportunity arrives sideways, a door you were not knocking on opens. The tradition is careful here. It does not promise anything, and it makes no claim about events. Reversed meaning
Reversed, the wheel is read as sticking, or as turning the way you did not want. The commonest reading is a cycle repeating: the same argument every Christmas, the same sort of job, the same month of the year that always goes badly. The tradition suggests looking for your own part in the pattern, since a wheel that keeps returning to one point usually has something caught in it. It can also describe resistance, the effort of holding a situation exactly as it is when everything around it has already changed. Reversed, the card invites you to consider what you are gripping, and what it is costing you to keep gripping it.
In love
In love, this card describes a shift in circumstances rather than in feeling. People come back into your life; people move away; a chance meeting rearranges a season. For a long partnership it often marks the point where the shape of the relationship changes because something outside it has, a house move, a retirement, a grown child returning home. The tradition's counsel is to let the new arrangement settle before judging it, since the first six weeks of anything are unrepresentative. It makes no promises about who will appear or when, and any reading that does is overreaching.
Work and money
At work the wheel usually turns up around things outside your control: a reorganisation, a market that moves, a chance introduction, a role that appears because somebody else left.
